Choosing Your Wedding Day Venue
You have decided to get married overseas and chosen the country where you want to celebrate your wedding, now you need to decide what type of wedding day you would like to have? Try to talk it over between the two of you first, before involving others, that way you are much more likely to end up with the day you want!
Religious or Civil Ceremony?
You might think that because you are not getting married in your home county that a traditional religious ceremony is not an option BUT in many countries, you can still arrange a Christian (or other denomination) ceremony. Here in Cyprus both the Anglican Church and Catholic church offer religious ceremonies.
Also, that ceremony can take place in a church or chapel but is also available in most other venues - hotel, beach, golf club or even yacht!
Check out our information on the three religious venues available in Paphos.
Small and Intimate, or Large and Lovely?
Are you hoping your wedding day will be like an elopement with just the two of you and a few witnesses or do you want to invite all your friends and family to come on holiday and share your day?
Whatever the size there will be an option for you. You can be married in various venues and then move to a taverna, restaurant or dedicated wedding venue for a reception. How about arranging a BBQ at one of the dedicated picnic sites found in Paphos region?
Many Hotels can accommodate the whole wedding day from ceremony to sit down or buffet meal, and even dancing later in the night. So, if this is the route you wish to take then investigating local hotels and their wedding packages will be important. Two elements to consider are what is the situation regarding ‘non-resident’ guests – some hotels charge for access or limit the amount of time these guests can be in the hotel – and secondly does the hotel restrict the suppliers you can use? The second point may be a positive as there are less decisions to make but if you prefer to research suppliers and choose your own this may be a stumbling point.
A ceremony followed by a taverna, or restaurant is a flexible and more informal option. One option would be to hire a Wedding Bus and transport your guests to the reception venue and have a traditional meze.
There are several golf clubs in Paphos area where you can have your wedding and reception – Minthis, Elea, Secret Valley and Aphrodite hills. Minthis in particular has an old monastery where an outdoor ceremony can be performed.
There are venues overlooking the sea, historic sites and even yachts where you can celebrate your wedding so there really is an option for everyone in Paphos, Cyprus.
Costs and Availability?
Once you have narrowed down your choices contact them for ideas about availability and cost, remember to ask about payment plans and discounts as well! Finally, think about what time of year and time of day you would like the ceremony to take place and be prepared to book 18 months to 2 years in advance for popular options.
