Planning Your Big Day

Ways to stay cool in Hot Weather at your Destination Wedding

You have finally made it and are ready for your dream destination wedding. Welcome to Cyprus!

As there is a requirement to be in the country for a minimum of 3 days prior to the wedding ceremony we are sure you have lots of relaxing, drinking, eating, sunbathing, and partying to do. On top of this there will be some important meetings, appointments, and paperwork – BUT remember that it can be extremely hot, particularly in July and August, and the last thing you need is heat stroke or sunburn.

Siga Siga

It is easy to forget to look after yourself as you rush around, spend time with friends and family, and begin the final preparations for your wedding day. Here are a few ideas for staying cool, relaxed, and healthy.

  • Drink lots of water, staying hydrated will prevent headaches and nausea.
  • Freeze a bottle half filled with water, then when you go out fill it the rest of the way. Ice cold water for several hours!
  • Wear sunscreen, you will still get a tan but without that nasty sunburn.
  • Stay in the shade or take a siesta between 11am and 3pm, there is a reason local shops and businesses close in the heat of the day.
  • Wear a hat and carry a fan, a simple paper fan can cool you down quickly.
  • Loose clothing in natural fabrics such as cotton and linen will help your body stay sweat free.
  • Siga, siga -as the Cypriots say- slowly, slowly! Take your time and don’t rush, when out for a walk or sightseeing take frequent breaks to sit and take in your surroundings.
  • Eat inside where there is air-conditioning or choose a seat where the fans cause a breeze.
  • Ice cream, Frappe, salads, fruit smoothies will all be cooling.
  • Take cooling dips in the pool or sea, or quick cold showers work wonders.
  • Running cold water over the inside of your wrist can also cool you down.
  • In extreme heat a damp scarf or t-shirt placed in a fridge and then wrapped around your neck can provide some relief.

Think about the timing of your wedding ceremony and reception. A mid-afternoon ceremony after 3pm will be cooler and makes photographing you and the guests easier, also sunset shots, by the sea, are a great addition.
