When is the Best Time to Get Married in Cyprus?
Having chosen Cyprus as your ideal Destination wedding venue take some time to think about WHEN is the best time for your wedding?
Cyprus is blessed with wonderful sunshine for most of the year, with warm to hot days April to October. Later in the Autumn there is the opportunity to spend a day in the Troodos mountains and the afternoon walking along the beach. If you like skiing then January and February often see snow and open ski/toboggan runs, although this does also coincide with the most rainfall.
April – A very picturesque month to be married. Beautiful sunny days, almond blossom and wildflowers abound but it is cool in the evening so pack a shawl or light cardigan. Temperatures in the low to high 20’s but the occasional shower or overnight thunderstorm may be experienced. This is also the month in which Orthodox Easter may be celebrated, do bear in mind that Easter is a HUGE holiday for Cypriots. While many businesses may be closed for the long weekend most tourist related ones are open, just expect it to be busy.
May – A great choice if there are children in the wedding party. While you may still want to pack a light cover up, for the chill in the evening, the days are sunny and warm, mid to late 20’s and there are still some wildflowers in the countryside. Beware the intensity of Cyprus sunshine; suncream, hats and staying in the shade in the middle of the day will prevent sunburn or heat exhaustion.
June – The temperatures are heating up, evenings are warm and even the sea is less cold. You should take the heat into consideration when choosing your venue – is it air-conditioned or is there shade? When deciding on your food and drink – summer salads, fresh watermelon, and iced drinks? What time of day you have your ceremony – mid-afternoon or early evening will be cooler?
July and August – It gets extremely hot, mid 30’s and up, the days are long and it is peak tourist season. Wonderful for a relaxed holiday and wedding. Consider the heat and what activities and celebrations you want during your stay. Make use of the evenings with meals in restaurants, evening cruises or visits to other attractions. Save daytimes for quiet, air-conditioned or water activities. The timing of your ceremony and reception, as well as the flowers, cake and other elements that can be affected by the heat should all be considered carefully.
September– Sunny days, warm nights and the sea is great for a swim or snorkel. Temperatures are still in the 30’s and the days are still long, as you are outside peak school holidays there may be some savings to be had, although it is still a very busy month for tourists.
October – It is still shorts and T-shirts weather, mid to high 20’s, with plenty of opportunity to sunbathe, swim and visit the sites. Towards the end of the month there may be the odd shower or thunderstorm and sunset is quite early between 5pm and 6pm.
